• so it took about 3 minutes for that link on Strong Female Characters to accumulate notes about why various female characters suck
• and obviously Nu!Uhura is the worst
• because she’s Spock’s love interest
• which is a compromise of her character
• I mean, she’s good at her job and has a boyfriend and she rejects the other dude?  and she’s like, consistently ambitious and assertive while remaining supportive of said boyfriend?  WHOA.
• where are her flaws why isn’t she addicted to space heroin or cheating on her space taxes or falling down space wells?
• MARY SUE
• meanwhile Kirk is the specialist hero ever to hero and Spock is the only one of his kind and together they have a special hero destiny and Chekov is a child genius and Scotty is a misunderstood genius and Sulu’s only character flaw is that he sometimes forgets the parking brake which actually turns out to save everyone’s life
• I mean back in the good old days of the 1960s Uhura never had a boyfriend because the writers respected her character and her autonomy as a career woman too much to reduce her from a supporting character who was good at her job to a supporting character who was good at her job and had a boyfriend
